What do we look for in a personal trainer?
We encourage candidates who can contribute to Free Form Fitness by using their talents and by testing their growing knowledge and abilities to effectively create a positive impact on others.
To create a dynamic environment that mirrors the breadth and depth of our clients, we seek diversity. Each year, we welcome 5-10 candidates between the 3 locations representing a wide range of interests and backgrounds. While our personal trainers backgrounds and experiences vary greatly, they all share a demonstrated the value of caring and a desire to effect positive change.
For the right person, now is the right time to apply
The emergence of an individual’s coaching talent does not follow a pre-determined schedule. Though some applicants choose to apply after four or five years of work experience, many promising candidates are optimally prepared to apply to Free Form Fitness after two or three years of experience—or even, in some cases, directly from university. Ultimately, you are in the best position to determine whether you are ready to apply.
If you have thoroughly explored our web site and think that Free Form Fitness may be right for you, we encourage you to carefully review the Admission Criteria’s section below and be sure to complete the application form so that we can send you additional information relevant to your interests, including invitations to any events we think may be useful to you.
Our personal trainer selection process is thoughtful, thorough and need-blind.
Admission Criteria
Genuine coaching talent cannot be narrowly defined. Instead of looking for an “ideal” candidate, Free Form Fitness invites applicants who exhibit a variety of skills, accomplishments, and temperaments. The true common characteristics of our personal trainers are their potential for impact and a capacity to thrive in our unique environment.
Indeed, to create the most stimulating environment possible for all personal trainers and staff, we consciously select a diverse group of people, one that not only reflects a variety of backgrounds, but also a wide range of personal interests and professional ambitions.
A Habit of Leadership
A great coach is a great leader. We recognize — and welcome — leadership that may be expressed in many forms, from college extracurricular activities to academic or business achievements, from personal accomplishments to community commitments. We appreciate leadership on any scale as well, from organizing a classroom to directing a combat squad, from running an independent business to spearheading initiatives at work. In essence, we are looking for evidence of your potential – a portfolio of experiences, initiatives, and accomplishments that reflect a habit of leadership.
Knowledge and Academics
Free Form Fitness is a demanding, high achieving, and highly results driven environment. We look for individuals who will thrive on sophisticated ideas and lively discussion. Free Form Fitness’s hiring personnel will review your prior academic performance and the nature of your work experience. We expect that you have the highest level of education and are able to demonstrate the ability to master key theoretical and practical concepts.
Compassion
So much of the Free Form Fitness’s experience – more specifically all the people that work there – require the deep desire to help others succeed. That’s why we look for personal trainers who exhibit the highest standards of service, intimacy and respect for others. The right candidates must be eager to help others, support their colleagues, and teach as well as learn from their peers.
Please note that there is no minimum work experience requirement for Free Form Fitness. Successful candidates are able to demonstrate strength in the criteria outlined above, regardless of their number of years of work experience. They include university graduates with significant experience, as well as individuals with as little as one to two years of full-time work experience.
It is important for you to assess your own readiness when deciding when to apply.
