Are You Ready for Personal Training?

April 7, 2008 by Chelsea von Tobel

For some reason many people out there think that they need to get in shape to even start personal training. To me this is completely backwards and I do not understand this way of thinking. Personal training is a tool to help you achieve your health and fitness goals. It is important to be doing the right things to get there or else you will get discouraged and likely quit. So why not start out on the right foot from the very first day?

Incorrect form when working out can be detrimental, injuries occur often from incorrect form. Also to unlearn a bad habit is ten times harder than learning correctly right from the start. Many injuries are not even from actual incorrect form but just from not understanding all the science behind exercise and doing their exercises in the incorrect order or too often an ending up with overuse injuries. Overuse injuries occur often in people who attend group classes more than once a week that repeat the same movements all the time. Our bodies are not meant to work like that naturally and there are consequences.

Another misconception that people often have is that they are too old to start working out.
There is no age that is too old to start some sort of exercise. The key in cases such as these is to find a personal trainer that can create a custom program for your needs and has experience in training older people with success. We have clients at Free Form Fitness that have starting training with us at the age of 70, 75 and even 82 years old. As well as clients who have survived heart attacks and diseases such as cancer. It is never too late to start some form of exercise.

So if you are one of those individuals that feel they can not start personal training for any reason chances are you are wrong and there is something a personal trainer can help you with to reach your personal health and fitness goals. To meet with a personal trainer there is no cost involved, no commitment required so there is no reason to not at least look further into how you can benefit from the services of a quality personal trainer that can create a customized program for your needs.
