How to Avoid Reaching Plateaus

Have you been doing the same routine for a while now and finding that you just aren't getting the same results as you were in the beginning? Everyone is bound to hit a plateau in their workouts sooner or later if you don't mix things up once in a while. Your body is smart, and it will find a way to make difficult workouts easier.
This means two things, you will stop gaining strength and you will use fewer calories to do the same exercises you did in the past.

So what can you do to prevent this from happening? Change it up!

There are many ways of changing things up, such as;

1. Increasing your intensity level. This means increasing weight, speed, angles, etc.

2. Introducing new exercises.

By throwing new exercises into the mix, you will force your body to work harder because it is not expecting it. This will also help with boredom.

3. Change the order of exercises.

Same principle as introducing new exercises, decreases boredom and will help you get out of that rut.

4. Keeping a close eye on your diet. Diet plays a huge role in weight loss or strength gain. Say no to processed foods!

5. Turn off the TV and get to bed! If you aren't getting adequate rest, your muscles are not getting adequate recovery time and you will not see the strength gains that you should.

These are just a sample of things you can do to help overcome that plateau. Sometimes your best option is to hire a professional. A personal trainer can introduce you to exciting new exercises and unsure you are progressing the way you should be.
