When Jean-Luc and his wife, Chelsea, built Free Form Fitness, they knew it would be a successful business. And it was, at least in terms of membership. But true success, the kind that is measured in transformed bodies and lives, would take a bit longer to find.

"At one time we were a gym that was based solely on membership sales, just like all the other gyms out there, but I was never happy because people never came. Well, you would see everyone come a few times, but a year later they all looked the same and eventually quit, just like they do at all the other gyms,” Jean-Luc says. “I remember a time where this one lady bought a year membership, yet never came. And then when her membership was up, she came and renewed, doing the same thing again.”

Seeing the steady stream of new members coming through the doors, business people told them, “This is a great business.” But people didn’t stay, they didn’t get results, and that was not the kind of “success” that Jean-Luc and Chelsea wanted. According to Jean-Luc, “I thought to myself that this was not the vision I had. I seriously thought it was embarrassing.”

How I started as a personal trainer

I started personal training in 2000, and went on to win 1st in Canada in natural bodybuilding and 7th in the world. My purpose in life is to help others succeed by motivating and teaching. Since then I’ve helped hundreds of people get healthy, strong and lean. From international level athletes to the regular men or women who simply want to lose a few pounds. I’ve been featured in muscle magazine and have written hundreds of articles and done many seminars on different topics such as nutrition, exercise, stress and life balance. I’m extremely passionate about getting people results and focus my time on helping my team of trainers do the same.

I swam competitively when I was in my teens. It was then that I got introduced to weight training by my swim coach, and my passion for fitness kept growing from there. I really enjoyed working in the health field, but eventually realized that I wanted to be able to share my passion for fitness with others and to be able to help people with their health in a whole other way. I have been a very active person all my life, 10 years ago I joined the wrestling team and I fell in love with the sport. I spent my extra time learning, coaching and spreading knowledge. How I started as a personal trainer

I was inspired to help others reach their health and fitness goals after I completed my first fitness/figure competition in 2006. I realized my passion for fitness needed to be shared and I wanted to help others get the body they wanted and also to get them to learn about the "whys" behind all we do. I like to help people understand the reason we, at Free Form Fitness, do things the way we do and why they are superior to other methods for long term health and to keep the weight off.
